Charles Hoover AIA
Charles Hoover AIA has practiced architecture for over thirty years. He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Cooper Union in 1976 and a Master of Science degree in Architectural Science from the College of Architecture, Art and Planning, Cornell University in 1984.
Prior to returning to private practice in 2002, he served as a project architect and project manager in Cornell University’s department of Planning, Design and Construction for seven and a half years. Before working at Cornell, Charles practice in Ithaca had focused primarily on private residential design and affordable housing.
During his years at Cornell, he was involved in numerous office, research and teaching space renovations. He also served as a project architect for the University’s program to remove barriers to people with disabilities, in conformance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Awards which Charles has received recognize his strengths in Historic Preservation, Sympathetic Rehabilitation, and new construction in the context of historic structures.
Charles has taught as a guest lecturer and as an adjunct in the Department of Architecture at Cornell. His volunteer community service includes almost 15 years of Board membership of Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services, three years of Board membership of the Mutual Housing Association of Tompkins County, and six years of Board membership of Historic Ithaca, including three years as its Board President.
