Partial Reconstruction Church of the Holy Innocents Hoboken, NJ
The Church of the Holy Innocents was originally constructed in 1872 and significantly enlarged in 1895 by Henry Vaughn. Other significant additions were made in 1913 and in 1932. The Church is largely unchanged and is both on the National Register of Historic Places as well as a local landmark.
The stone face of the Church was ineffectively tied to the nave and had begun to separate from it, leaning out-of-plumb by up to 7”. The project began by numbering the stones on the elevation, dismantling them, installing a reinforced back-up, and tying the reinforcing back to the body of the church, re-installing the stone, with new cast-stone copings. The adjacent slate roof was also partially disassembled in order for new copper flashing to be installed throughout. This work was approved by the NJ Historic Trust and the Hoboken Historic Preservation Commission.
